3D printing in dentistry

Modern technologies, innovations and topical issues in medicine and dentistry are among the highlights of this year’s side-evets program at Bulmedica/Buldental 2017, which is held from 17 to 19 May at Inter Expo Center. The topic of 3D printing in dentistry was discussed during the 2nd Dental Tribune Conference @ Buldental.

“Compared to laser units, here we need much shorter time and the process is faster,” the lecturer said dental technician Eva Berghaus from Germany, who introduced to the public the possibilities of 3D printing in dentistry and the materials being developed for this technology.

Sharing her experience with Shareprint, she reminded that 3D printers have a liquid photopolymer container and UV light. Depending on their individual needs, laboratories can choose between innovative machines with a variety of capacities.

The era of digital fabrication

During the process of fabrication , the material is applied in several layers at a speed of 100 mm / h. “We are already in the digital era,” said the lecturer. Among the novelties in the technology of this type of fabrication, she pointed out the availability of automatic calibration, ensuring a good operation of the printer throughout the processing. It has also the radio frequency identification of the material that allows the machine itself to inform the operator if he does not use the right material for the particular element he manufactures.

Eva Berghaus reminded that modern machines already have the ability to heat the basin with photopolymer and RHS composite maintenance system. The lecturer presented the results of the use of innovative technologies in the production of dental bands, interactive scanning, the fabrication of new models, etc.

From May 17th to 19th, the largest medical exhibition in Bulgaria presents a record number of innovations – 250, from 29 countries. At the forum, which brings together both the medical and dental medicine sector, visitors will find modern equipment, supplies for hospitals and healthcare facilities, as well as tools, modern rehabilitation equipment, emergency medical care and the latest solutions for prosthetics.
