It takes between three and four years for complete training of the operational four-legged friends
The main unit in every rescue service in the world is composed of dogs. The brave four-legged rescuers are part of every rescue operation, whether it be the effects of avalanches, earthquakes, or fires. At this year’s Bulmedica / Buldental edition, the participants had seen live the skills of the four-legged pets thanks to a demonstration. The event is organized within the exhibition of the Bulgarian Red Cross, which this year celebrates its 140 years anniversary.
Gary the dog was the main character in the show. Three years old, German shepherd breed, he had to solve the task of finding a lost man. Under the watchful eye of his guide, the specially-trained dog who had the skills to search for lost people under avalanches, ruins, etc., found the “injured” person who had previously taken his place in the shelter specially built for the demonstration.
After completing his difficult task and discovering the injured man, volunteers from the Bulgarian Red Cross Youth Emergency Teams fulfilled their role. They demonstrated how to give first aid.
“In fact, it takes between three and four years to completely train an operational dog,” said the dog trainer Simeon. He revealed that training continues throughout the day and includes various activities. Among them many practicing, walks and personal contact between the dog and his trainer. Simeon said that German shepherds, Labradors, and retrievers are the most common for operational dogs.
The doors of Bulmedica / Buldental will be open from 16 to 18 May from 09.30 to 18.00.
Visitors will have the opportunity to discover products by more than 870 brands of the exhibitors, that are is over 200.
